Seriously has the best shoujo characters for me.
The protagonist/heroine, Teru, isn’t pathetically needy and submissive and dependent. When she is dependent, it’s in a mature way and a special way rather than a “I can’t do anything myself” kind of way.
And the protagonist/hero, Tasuku, is a down to earth guy that isn’t controlling or unrealistically attracted to the heroine. He does “protective” stuff every so often, but not without letting her do things herself or without her permission/plan. When he protects her, she is expecting to be protected. Also, they have a unique relationship that stays firm from start to finish. It doesn’t hurt that the story line is pretty original, either.
Also, there are a lot of intriguing side characters (along with some that you can brush off). I love how mysterious Motomi keeps Akira and how Akira’s position starts off villain-esque but slowly becomes endearing. Same goes for Kuwagata, he’s intriguing in a good way.
I haven’t wanted to ring any of the characters necks yet and I’m almost done! It may be a first for me.
"In our time together, you claimed a special place in my heart,
one I'll carry with me forever and that no one can ever replace."
